What a saved dub needs

PerformanceRecorded audio

Your voice recordings are the part created during the session.

Picturedub_video.ogv

The game video remains inside the installed Dub Pack.

TimingClip metadata

Timestamps tell the replay where each recorded line belongs.

Optional layerBacking track

Music, ambience or effects may be stored separately from dialogue.

If you remove, rename or replace the original Dub Pack, a saved performance can lose the video or timing information it needs. Back up the matching pack together with the saved audio.

Find the game folder and make a safe backup

  1. Open the game's own folder shortcut. Use the main-menu button that opens the game files. This is the most reliable route across versions and operating systems.
  2. Close the game before copying. Do not back up while a dub is still recording or a settings file is being written.
  3. Copy the whole game data folder. This preserves saves, settings and the packs needed for replay instead of guessing one subfolder.
  4. Label the backup. Include the game version, date and Dub Pack name so you can restore the matching environment.

A community-observed Windows fallback is C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Roaming\YeahMaybe\ChocierVoicer\game\. The reported project-folder spelling is ChocierVoicer. This path is not stated as a cross-version official guarantee, so prefer the in-game opener. Linux locations can vary; do not transplant the Windows path.

How to export a dub to a shareable video

The official release notes document saving and rewatching dubs inside the game, not a built-in finished MP4 export. A recent official-community question asking how to export had no developer answer when checked.

Lowest-risk method: record the replay

  1. Restore the exact Dub Pack used for the performance.
  2. Play the saved dub inside the game and confirm voice, video and backing track are synchronized.
  3. Use your operating system's normal screen recorder to capture that playback.
  4. Watch the resulting video before deleting or moving any original game data.

Third-party renderers

Community tools that combine saved audio and pack assets into MP4 now exist, but they are not part of the official game. A renderer may be a real executable rather than a simple content pack. Check its source, publisher, update history, antivirus result and version support; keep the originals; and do not describe it as an official exporter.

Fixing missing audio or out-of-sync dubs

  1. Test a normal recorded clip. If ordinary playback is silent, solve the microphone/output problem before changing Dub metadata.
  2. Confirm the matching pack. Restore the same dub_video.ogv, clip names and timing metadata used when the performance was saved.
  3. Check timestamps. The official guide requires each sample's start time. One wrong value can shift the rest of a scene.
  4. Check the backing track. Make sure it starts from the same timeline as the OGV and has not been independently trimmed.
  5. Separate latency from metadata. If every line is late by a similar amount, microphone/interface latency is more likely than one bad timestamp.
  6. Try a 20–60 second test scene. Do not debug a long film clip until a short pack replays correctly.

Sharing a dub with Discord friends

Export or record a finished replay first, then share the video file or a private link. This avoids asking every friend to recreate your exact game folder and Dub Pack. Get consent from everyone whose voice was recorded, and check whether you have permission to share the underlying scene and audio.

Do not use the save folder as cloud collaboration
Syncing a live game-data folder through a cloud drive can create partial writes and mismatched pack versions. Share a copied backup or finished export after the game closes.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I find an MP4 after saving?

Because the official game saves audio and rebuilds the replay with the Dub Pack; it does not save a finished video by default.

Can I move only the recorded voice files?

You can copy them for safekeeping, but a working replay also depends on the matching OGV and timestamp metadata. Back up the whole game data folder when possible.

Should I delete save.json when old dubs are silent?

No, not before a backup. One community report says resetting it changed a muted setting, but deleting configuration is not an official universal fix and may remove preferences.
